7 Things To Do on Maui When it Rains (South Side Edition!)

Here in Maui, we love when it rains; the island gets extra green & rainbows really pop! Plus the weather cools down & new adventures await. So don’t let a little rain get you down - here’s a list that will keep your vacation going on the South Side of Maui while we wait for the sun to reappear.

Brunch, coffee, & rainbow-spotting at Hotel Wailea

Hotel Wailea’s restaurant is a hidden gem for breakfast!

From 7-10am daily they serve delicious, chef-driven plated brunch with unparalleled views of Maui. It’s the perfect place to spot rainbows while you sip a fresh cappuccino!

Aloha Rock Climbing Gym

Aloha Rock Gym

Aloha Rock Climbing Gym

One of Maui’s newest additions is a state-of-the-art indoor climbing gym, located in Kahului. Fun for all ages, this 8000SF center offers a variety of opportunities to strengthen & challenge your body & mind - and meet a few locals!

Driving Range at Maui Nui

If there’s just a light drizzle and you’re still keen to practice your swing, Maui Nui driving range offers a covered spot to grab a bucket of balls & play the day away.

Mint Maui (formerly Lagree)

One of the locals’ favorite spots to get a little sweat in - they now offer Versa climbing as well as reformer machines. But make sure to book in advance as these classes fill up quickly! If you’re more of a yogi, we also recommend Island Power Yoga.

Kilolani Spa at Grand Wailea

Spa Day

One of Wailea’s newest spas, the Kilolani Grand Wailea offers a half-day experience in their Hydrotherapy Gardens where you can spend hours hopping from cold plunges to rain showers, to infrared saunas, and hydrotherapy pools. Included complimentary with booked sessions.

If you can’t make it to the Grand, we also recommend visiting locally-owned Scape Maui in Paia town for a massage or treatment!

Tike Hau Drink

The Thousand Peaks cocktail at Tike Hau in Wailea

Tike Hau

When the afternoon hits & you’re ready to wind down, visit Tike Hau at Wailea Village to try their award-winning poke bowl & photo-worthy Thousand Peaks Cocktail, complete with a surfboard garnish! This is our favorite spot to sip the evening away, talk story, and make new friends.

For Kids: Maui Ocean Center

And finally, if you’ve got kids in-tow and they’re getting the wiggles, Maui’s go-to rainy day solution is the Maui Ocean Center, where they can learn about wildlife, watch a movie about whales, and even see real-live sharks!
